Avoid media that causes negative thinking. Research shows that negative thinking is supported by media with negative comparisons.[6] If you notice media making you feel negative, one approach is to avoid that media. If you found yourself frequently comparing yourself to a certain model or athlete, avoid magazines, shows, or games that feature them. 学会如何学习:帮助你掌握复杂学科的强大智力工具(Learning How to Learn) via Coursera 13 hours worth of material , 4 weeks long 21st May, 2018 No reviews yet. Thanks to Carol Dweck and Angela Duckworth, we’re making a point to address why some kids (and adults) face challenges and persevere, while others shy away and are set back. Unfortunately, like many hot concepts, real world application is easier said than done. Last year, Dweck released a revised copy of her book – Mindset: The New Psychology of Success – to address false growth mindset. Rather than do a deep dive into what does – and doesn’t – qualify, let’s discuss some real steps you can take right now to get your child started on the path of growth mindset success. One day my mentor, Mr. Earl Shoaff, said to me, “Jim, if you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” I must admit that this was the most challenging assignment of all. This business of personal development lasts a lifetime. This isn’t what people usually think of as optimism. It’s not a generalized faith that things will work out on their own- the opportunity mindset is something completely different. A problem is still a problem, but it also offers an opportunity that can be seized if you take action. US$13.43 Fortunately, there has been an abundance of such research in the last decade. Emmons and McCullough (2003) conducted some of the first experimental studies of the effects of gratitude on well-being. In one study, college students were randomly placed into one of three conditions, (gratitude, hassles, or events), each of which lasted for nine weeks. Participants were given weekly packets in which they were to write down different things depending on their condition. In the gratitude condition, students were asked to write down several experiences for which they were grateful. In the hassles condition, students wrote down annoyances they experienced in the previous week. Finally, in the events condition, students wrote down a number of events that affected them in the past week. No instruction was given about what types of events to include, and responses ranged from “learned CPR” to “cleaned out my shoe closet”. The events condition acted as a neutral control condition to which the other two were compared. Students also completed a series of measures assessing physical symptoms and overall well-being. Students in the grateful condition reported significantly greater life satisfaction, greater optimism for the upcoming week, fewer physical symptoms, and, perhaps most surprisingly, exercised significantly more than students in either the events condition or the hassles condition. However, the gratitude intervention did not have a significant impact on positive or negative emotions. Thus, while being grateful caused students to assess their lives as more satisfying and made them more optimistic about their futures, it didn’t change the overall emotional tone of their daily lives. Chuck Gallozzi All, Success October 11, 2017 In the 1940’s, the psychologist Abraham Maslow famously saw ‘self-actualization’ as the highest level of achievement in people’s lives (Maslow, 1943). He argued that self-actualization was a manifestation of the fully developed person. Those who achieved it had reached their full potential and were blessed to experience selfhood, enjoy peak experiences and live their dreams.
