Evidence suggests that optimism is important in coping with difficult life events. Optimism has been linked to better responses to various difficulties, from the more mundane (e.g., transition to college [Brissette, Scheier, & Carver, 2002]) to the more extreme (e.g., coping with missile attacks [Zeidner & Hammer, 1992]). Optimism appears to play a protective role, assisting people in coping with extraordinarily trying incidents. Furthermore, optimism has been found to correlate positively with life satisfaction and self-esteem (Lucas, Diener, & Suh, 1996). Segerstrom and Sephton (2010) also examined whether optimism predicted positive affect. Their hypothesis that changes in optimism would predict changes in positive affect was borne out, as increases in optimism were associated with increased positive affect, and vice versa. Interestingly, changes in optimism were not related to changes in negative affect. Thus, it appears that optimism is uniquely related to positive affect. This means that optimists are generally happier with their lives than pessimists. This entry was posted in Millionaire Habits and tagged Millionaire Habits on August 7, 2016 by Timothy Sykes. Print Length: 90 pages Something that can really separate self-made millionaires from their wage-earning brethren is how they each perceive their place in the world. Millionaires are much more likely to have what psychologists call an internal locus of control. Basically, the theory of locus of control looks at how people perceive their ability to run their own lives, and individuals have either an internal or an external locus of control. Intercultural Communication and Conflict Resolution via Coursera 3 weeks long 21st May, 2018 2.3 3 Reviews The Biggest Questions in Science I was expecting a book that analyzes the habits and mindsets of successful people. I was expecting a book that gives a results proven method for setting goals. This book just recycles cliches statements and prints quotes you've heard a million times. I don't think any real research or interviews with successful people was done for this book. It seems that anyone can self publish books today that would never make it past a true publishing house. This books is more about "follow your passion" without giving concrete evidence for what the successful mindsets are of the people we consider successful. A better book that tries to debunk the "follow your passion" approach is one titled "So Good They Can't Ignore You". The "follow your passion" statements (like this book), are of no real value. Real, focused work, and deliberate practice is what gets results. I was hoping this book would try and tackle the thought process of successful people who are putting in the deliberate practice. Instead, it is just the author's feeling on what that might be with no research to back it up. I was also hoping this book would give practical advice for setting goals. I should have read the small print subtitle that talks about looking at the quotes of others so you can think like a millionaire. There are better books than this. personal development coach|growth mindset videos for kids personal development coach|a growth mindset personal development coach|growth mindset children's books
