Use the tools in their book, if you really want a system for improving negative thinking. Unlike this book it provides a system to get to the why you have negative thinking in the first place which allows for changes from that point. Negative thinking comes about as a protective device so affirmations alone won't change a system that while hindering you was set in place to help you. The author writes about the power of the subconscious and then states that repeating an affirmation 20 times for weeks will make that power accessible. I positivly doubt it. If I have an allergic reaction to shellfish no amount of affirming that I don't will change it. Shots or other ways of addressing the hyped up immunity might, but not affirmations. His encouragement to add "yet" to sentences when describing why something didn't work is probably the best part of the book. It keeps you open to trying something else. It is easy to to be cheerful when everything is going according to plan.  But, it is when you encounter unexpected setbacks and difficulties that you demonstrate to yourself, and the world around you, what kind of an attitude you really have.
