Most likely it’s because you love it, you want to get some exercise, spend time with your mates, and enjoy yourself in the process. Keep sight of this reason, and don’t let yourself turn the experience into an unpleasant one. How To Create Epic Content Without Getting Overwhelmed Another potential hitch in the positive-thinking movement is that a sanguine attitude may be unhealthy when taken to an extreme, because it can become unhinged from reality. In a 2000 article University of Michigan psychologist Christopher Peterson, a founder of the positive psychology movement, distinguished realistic optimism, which hopes for the best while remaining attuned to potential threats, from unrealistic optimism, which ignores such threats. What separates more grateful people from less grateful people? Recent evidence shows that a lot of the differences may be in how grateful people approach situations in which they’ve received some form of aid. When presented with the same short stories in which participants are told they’ve received help from another people, more grateful people tend to see their benefactors as more selfless and having exerted more effort to help, as well as placing higher value on the help they received (Wood, Maltby, Stewart, Linley, & Joseph, 2008). To further support this hypothesis, these authors sought to replicate their findings in people’s daily lives. Students kept diaries of moments in their everyday environment when they were helped by another person and then asked to rate how selfless and sincere was the benefactor, how much effort did the benefactor expend, how grateful did they feel toward their benefactor, and how valuable was the help received Findings from these random moments in everyday life supported the hypothesis that more grateful people rate all of these factors higher than less grateful people. These findings suggest that grateful people interpret events in a unique way, and this interpretation style might account for the benefits extracted from gift giving experiences. Personal Development Simplified is a guide that is clearly organized and packed with simple tools that one can immediately start to leverage for their growth. Sometimes a point needs making to somebody. Maybe your goalkeeper has consistently been giving away goals through poor distribution, rolling the ball straight to the opposition. Instead of being openly critical about them (or even worse, moaning behind their back) it’s much better to ask them about it, see if they’ve got any suggestions on what the team can do to help, and be positive in your comments. Some helpful (not patronising) advice, encouragement and reassurance is often all that players need to be able to work on fixing their errors. My son’s soccer coach uses an age-old mantra that “Attitude is everything, and everything is attitude.” Give him a player with a good attitude, and he can work wonders. If a kid has a bad attitude, he/she will struggle to succeed…plain and simple. Moreover, the player with the bad attitude adversely impacts his team and drains much of the coach’s time and energy. As with soccer, our outlook and the emotions we maintain dictate so much of our success in life. How we feel and the energy we put off impacts our relationships, our performance, and the nature of what we take out of the moments in our lives. Creating and maintaining a success mindset is really about maintaining a high level of positive energy in ourselves. Subscribe to FHPS News Tom Laurie Believe the world is a good place.
